Why “Creatrix”?
I (Creatrix Tiara) often refer to myself as a “Creatrix of Awesome” on bios and profiles (and my stage name, as you can tell). My mission so far is to Create More Awesome, and I thought it was a fun cheeky silly way to encapsulate that as a job description.
I am greatly inspired by tons of women and gender-non-binaries who have created lots of amazing work and movements in their lifetime, whether for personal reasons or for a greater cause. There are also men that I have found inspiring one way or another (Darren Hayes is my hero), but I found that there is often more space given to men’s achievements then there are to non-cis-men.
“Creator” has a lot of patriarchal, dogmatic connotations to it (mainly due to its use in Judeo-Christian religion). “Creatrix”, while a feminine form, seems to have a more witchy, magickal quality - playful yet powerful.
